Turn Your Outdoor Living "To Do" List into Your Outdoor Living "To Done!"

When it comes to adding outdoor living structures to your home, you have a choice. You can interview and hire several contractors with different specialties, or one who specializes in every aspect of outdoor living construction. Archadeck of Fort Wayne is the premier local builder who specializes in all things outdoor living. If you’re looking at decks, patios and other hardscapes, we can take that “to do” list and get it all done for you, with beautiful results.

As we move into fall, you may be taking stock of what needs to be done around your home before winter. Outdoor “to do” lists are essential this time of year. Meanwhile, as you’re enjoying the cooler weather, is adding a deck or patio on your “to do” list this year? Maybe even a deck and patio combination with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor fireplace or fire pit?

Fort Wayne’s Single Source for Deck and Patio Combinations

When you work with different contractors for your deck and hardscapes, the result can be a disjointed building process, even chaos. Some aspects of the two jobs can be interdependent and require close coordination, which isn’t always easy with two or more contractors involved.

When you work with Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we design and plan your entire project at one time. This allows us to work more efficiently. By designing your deck and hardscape elements together, we can create one cohesive design that feels organic instead of haphazard. It makes more sense to work with one design-and-build firm that can handle all facets of the outdoor living space you have in mind.

Combining a Deck Makeover with New Hardscapes?

Instead of a new deck, does your autumn “to do” list include a deck makeover? You may not need to replace your aging deck. Perhaps it just needs to be spruced up. If you have an older deck and want to add hardscapes to your outdoor living space, we may recommend a deck makeover instead of deck replacement.

When we talk about a deck makeover, the process we’re referring to is called redecking. It’s a way to save time and money by replacing your deck’s surface, railings and stairs instead of replacing the entire deck. Not all decks are candidates for redecking, so we would need to examine your deck’s support structure before proceeding with that idea.

Read more about the details of a redecking project here: Does Your Deck Need a Face Lift? See this Fort Wayne “Redeck” in Chestnut Hills!

Thinking about replacing your wood deck with a low-maintenance composite deck? The money you save with redecking can partially offset the higher cost of composite/synthetic decking materials.

Whether you want to combine your new hardscapes with a new deck or a deck makeover, Archadeck is your go-to patio builder and deck builder. We have vast experience designing hardscapes and decks, plus experience designing them to work in unison to meet your outdoor living needs. We handle all details of both types of structures from designing and obtaining permits to building—with Archadeck’s signature quality and attention to detail.

Is Your Outdoor Living Space Celebration-Worthy for Labor Day?

With the holiday weekend coming up, are you looking at your deck, patio or porch and wishing you had made structural improvements? Has your pressure-treated wood deck seen better days? Does your patio have drainage issues or cracks? Would you like to add some amazing features to your outdoor living space?

While it’s too late to make structural improvements by Labor Day 2020, let’s go ahead and start getting ready for Labor Day 2021. At Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we want you to know it’s not too early to meet with us and start making those plans!

What are your Labor Day backyard traditions?

Some holidays are just made for outdoor living fun! Labor Day is definitely one of those holidays that’s best celebrated outdoors. Even if school has already started—in person or remotely—Labor Day always feels like the last throes of summer. Many families have traditions of enjoying specific activities as part of their Labor Day celebrations, and likely some of those are centered around food. Of course!

Will your Labor Day include these activities?

  • Grilling hot dogs and burgers on the deck or patio for friends and family
  • Hosting a potluck with neighbors on your deck, patio or porch
  • Setting up games and prizes for the kids in the yard—relay races, egg toss, water balloons and more silly fun!
  • Turning on the sprinkler!

If you don’t feel like your outdoor living space is “celebration-worthy” this Labor Day, let’s be sure to take care of that before next year.

Plan your outdoor living upgrades for Labor Day fun in 2021

Archadeck of Fort Wayne can make custom improvements to your outdoor living space you’ll be proud to show off for any and all holiday celebrations. Let’s look at a few ideas:

  • Replace your deck or consider redecking

Deck replacement and redecking are similar but not the same. With a deck replacement, we’ll remove your existing deck and custom-design a new deck for your home. You decide how much you want to change with your new deck design! Many of our clients decide to go with a low-maintenance composite deck when replacing an older wooden deck. Will you decide never to worry about wood deck maintenance again? If you prefer a traditional wood deck, we respect that choice. Archadeck of Fort Wayne is Fort Wayne’s best deck builder, and we can build you the finest wood deck you’ve ever had.

Looking for low maintenance? Read more: Fort Wayne Low-Maintenance Deck Replacement

Redecking is a cost-effective way to refresh the look of your deck. Provided your deck’s substructure is in good condition, we can replace the surface boards, railing and stairs. With a new surface, your Fort Wayne deck will look and feel new—the perfect setting for your next Labor Day celebration.

Is redecking for you? Read more: Does Your Deck Need a Face Lift? See this Fort Wayne “Redeck” in Chestnut Hills!

  • Imagine your perfect patio for next Labor Day’s outdoor BBQ

If you’re looking at your patio and wishing it were more “special” for your Labor Day activities, what comes to mind? Replacing your plain concrete patio with a beautiful new paver patio? Addressing drainage issues or adding ornamental and functional hardscapes? We are your Fort Wayne patio builder. Add a seating wall, pillars or a pergola. Adding a roof can turn your patio into a covered porch!

If you want to feed a hungry group, you can’t go wrong with an outdoor kitchen integrated into your custom paver patio design! We can scale it up or scale it down depending on how many bells and whistles you want to include with your outdoor kitchen. Labor Day will never be the same at your home!

A fire pit or outdoor fireplace can rachet up the fun in your back yard for Labor Day and every day. Will you wait for dark or start roasting marshmallows early? After a fun-filled day of games and good food, everyone will enjoy gathering around a fire as afternoon turns into evening and the stars begin to twinkle.

  • Screened porch, covered porch, open porch?

If rain is in the forecast, wouldn’t it be nice to have a covered area outdoors for long weekends and holiday celebrations? Don’t let adverse weather conditions put a damper on your outdoor fun. Be prepared next year with a protected space you can count on no matter what. At Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we design and build all kinds of porches. Let us custom design the perfect porch for your home—for holidays and every day, all year long.

You CAN have an amazing outdoor living space worthy of your Labor Day celebration this time next year—if you don’t already. While you enjoy the long holiday weekend coming up, give some thought to where and how you might replace or add outdoor living structures. This time next year, you’ll be celebrating in style! And not just next year, but every Labor Day for years to come.

Updating Your Home with a New Deck Is Like Traveling Through Time!

The Fort Wayne deck replacement featured here reminds us just how much deck design has changed over the decades! If you didn’t know our language or culture, you might not understand that the Before and After images you see here are both called DECKS! How can two structures that look so different both go by the same name? Deck design has come a long way over the years in terms of materials and design elements like railings and stairs.

Is this beautiful low-maintenance deck giving you any ideas about replacing an older deck at your home? Give us a call!

Stunning-new-AZEK-deck-addition-in-Fort-Wayne

Here at Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we design and build a consistent mix of new wood decks and low-maintenance composite/synthetic decks. We know some homeowners will always remain loyal to wood decks, inherently preferring natural wood as a building material. When their old decks need replacing, they will choose wood again. We applaud them for staying true to their personal preferences.

Popularity of Low-Maintenance Decks in Fort Wayne, IN

Meanwhile, we notice the balance shifting—across the board (pardon the pun)—as more and more Northeastern Indiana homeowners replace wood decks with low-maintenance decks. The allure of having a deck that will look great for many years with little effort on the homeowner’s part is powerful! As your Fort Wayne deck builder, we can help you select the specific low-maintenance decking that’s right for your budget and reflects your personal style.

AZEK-low-maintenance-poolside-deck-addition

You may be aware that today’s composite and synthetic decking materials look more like wood than they did when they were first introduced. Structurally, these “newer” materials have improved over the years in other ways, too. (They’re not actually “new” any longer! Composite decking has been around for more than 20 years.) Today’s composite and PVC decking boards resist damage from moisture and termites. They resist stains, scratches and fading, too—which is great, because with a wide array of colors available, who wants their deck to fade?

Design Updates Whisk Homeowners into the 21st Century

The Fort Wayne clients whose deck you see pictured here were indeed ready for a design change. Their wooden deck was 25-30 years old. Not only were they due for a style update, no one ever said a wood deck would last that many years. It was becoming a safety hazard.

Before
— Before (existing deck before project began).

Their deck overlooks a pool (notice the blue tarp) and they were interested in a design that opened out to the pool and the yard. They wanted minimal railings for a thoroughly open aesthetic. We created a custom deck design featuring broad, flared steps that are about 30 ft. wide. Not only does the flared design open up the deck’s face, these extra-deep steps are easier to use than traditional stairs.

Picture-framing-design-details-and-custom-seating-make-this-deck-commmand-attention

For their low-maintenance decking boards, the homeowners chose AZEK decking in Autumn Chestnut with AZEK Brazilian Walnut trim—both from AZEK’s Arbor collection. We designed the main deck surface with a picture-frame border for contrast. The railing on the sides of the deck is a black Westbury aluminum railing. The darker color helps this railing “disappear” from the scene, so it’s there for safety but hardly noticeable.

Custom features on this deck include bench seating on one side and a drink rail on the other side. Bench seating is a great way to accommodate more guests on a deck without taking up a lot of space for additional chairs. It looks like these homeowners are ready to entertain!

Beautiful Low-maintenance Deck Replacement in Fort Wayne’s LaCabreah neighborhood

These homeowners in the LaCabreah neighborhood of Fort Wayne, IN, are relaxing in style this summer on their beautiful, new low-maintenance deck. At Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we had the pleasure of working with them to design and build the perfect deck for their home. Suspended over this lush, green lawn and facing a full bank of trees on one side, the new deck fits right into the idyllic setting.

New Deck, New Design, New Choices

As your Fort Wayne deck builder, we love working with homeowners as they explore deck design possibilities. The clients whose project you see pictured here had an old, blue wooden deck and they were more than ready to replace it. Replacing a deck means you have the opportunity to change anything you didn’t like about your old deck. We usually start fresh with a new design, but if you want the exact same deck again, we could do that, too!

Deck design decisions include material type, color, size, shape, railing style, stair location, stair details and more. If you can envision your perfect deck, the one you see in your dreams, and describe it to us, we can build it for you. Will you add deck lighting? Will you add a pergola for style or shade? Will you pair your deck with a patio for twice as much outdoor living space and functionality?

In addition to meeting your needs for your deck’s style and size, Archadeck makes the effort to create a design that looks original to your home. We want your deck to look like it’s always been there. Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it has to look “tacked on.”

Benefits of Low-Maintenance Decking

Our clients here in Fort Wayne’s beautiful LaCabreah neighborhood love knowing that their low-maintenance deck will look great for years—decades, even! Yes, decades.

We-used-TimberTech-AZEK-decking-for-this-elegant-replacement-deck

The homeowners selected TimberTech AZEK decking from the Harvest Collection. Boards in the Harvest Collection feature blended colors in wood grain patterns with characteristics found in nature. Our clients chose the Slate Gray color, which matches their home’s siding perfectly. The deck color will stay true for … yes, five decades or longer. TimberTech AZEK decking comes with a 50-year fade and stain warranty.

TimberTech AZEK is a PVC decking material, also known as capped polymer or synthetic decking. These decking boards resist mold, mildew and moisture damage, and they also resist permanent staining from food and beverage spills. Would you like more details? With TimberTech AZEK, your deck boards won’t split, cup, splinter, blister, peel, flake, crack or rot. Nor will your deck be subjected to structural damage from termites or fungal decay.

Is low-maintenance decking sounding better and better to you? Each manufacturer’s product lines of synthetic or composite decking offer a specific array of benefits, so if the low-maintenance lifestyle appeals to you, let us know. We can go over the various options and help you select the one that’s right for you, your budget and your lifestyle.

Does Your Deck Need a Face Lift? See this Fort Wayne “Redeck” in Chestnut Hills!

If you’re considering a deck replacement project at your home, redecking is a great way to accomplish two goals at one time. First, you trade your old, worn deck for a shiny, new one. Second, if you choose low-maintenance decking, you trade annual wood deck maintenance chores for the easy, low-maintenance lifestyle. Our clients in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood, Fort Wayne, IN, have two decks on their home, so they are twice as happy with their redecking results!

Save Money with Redecking by Archadeck of Fort Wayne

With two spacious elevated decks at opposite ends of the house, a total deck replacement might have been expensive for these homeowners. Archadeck of Fort Wayne evaluated both decks to determine if redecking would be an option here. In both cases the answer was “Yes.”

A redecking project entails replacing the deck’s surface, railings and stairs while keeping the support structure that was installed with the original deck. Not all decks are candidates for redecking. Before we can proceed with a redecking plan, we must examine the support structure under the deck. If the substructure is still sound, or if we can reinforce it to bring it up to code, then redecking is an option. Redecking saves the client money because you pay for less materials and fewer hours of labor.

Rdecking-in-Chestnut-Hills

In the case of this two-deck home in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood, both decks passed our redecking inspection. One of them, the octagonal deck on the right, required reinforcement. With a few structural amendments, the deck support was prepped for its brand-new surface.

Will Redecking Make a Low-Maintenance Deck More Affordable?

Many clients find that the money they saved by redecking can actually put the cost of a low-maintenance composite or synthetic deck within reach. Low-maintenance decking materials do tend to be more expensive than wood decking, so it’s great when some of that cost is offset by savings.

These homeowners chose TimberTech AZEK decking from the Harvest Collection, in the Kona color, for both decks. TimberTech AZEK is a capped polymer decking material, also known as PVC. These deck boards are made to last—as you can tell by their manufacturer’s 50-year fade and stain warranty. With minimal maintenance, these two decks will look great for a long, long time.

Redecking-with-AZEK-decking--in-Chestnut-Hills

We used the same Kona color, a luscious dark brown, for the deck stairs on both sides. For their deck railing, the homeowners selected the Black TimberTech drink rail, and for the rail cap they chose the Kona decking material. For the crowning touch to these beautiful decks, we installed pyramid cap lights on the rail posts. When you add lighting, it becomes a design element on the deck, completing the ensemble. These LED lights create ambiance on the decks at night and make the area safer, too.

Decatur IN Deck and Pergola Combo, Low-Maintenance, Top to Bottom

When will you need to replace your composite deck, and what will you choose to replace it with? Archadeck of Fort Wayne is here to help you evaluate your older composite deck and help you decide what material to use for its replacement.

Decatur-IN-low-maintenance-deck-and-pergola-by-Archadeck-of-Fort-Wayne

Are we getting ahead of ourselves? Many homeowners are just now trying to decide between wood decks and low-maintenance decks built with composite and synthetic materials. For some of us, it’s hard to imagine composite decks needing to be replaced already, because they last so long.

Depending on your perspective, composite decking has either been around “forever”—or it’s “that new stuff they build decks with.” Either way you look at it, even composite decking needs to be replaced eventually. Trex introduced the first composite decking in 1992. Yes, 1992! Plenty of today’s homeowners weren’t even born yet in 1992. Plenty of the first composite decks have already been replaced with newer ones, or they soon will be. Meanwhile, as time is running out for those early composite decks, the manufacturers of composite and synthetic decking have been refining their products over the years.

Decatur, IN, Deck Replacement

These homeowners in Decatur, IN, chose deck builder Archadeck of Fort Wayne to replace their existing composite deck. What they had was an early Trex deck. This composite deck had reached the end of its useful life. They decided to replace it with synthetic decking from TimberTech AZEK.

Beautiful-new-AZEK-deck-in-Decatur-IN

If you’re uncertain about the difference between composite and synthetic decking, you’re not alone. Some people use the terms interchangeably, but they are not the same things. Composite decking is manufactured from recycled wood and plastic. Synthetic decking is made from plastic, specifically PVC. Synthetic decking is the more expensive of the two and has longer warranties.

Our clients chose the beautiful Slate Gray color of TimberTech AZEK decking. For a contrasting railing and pickets, they chose a Westbury aluminum rail in black. The combination is stunning.

Pergolas are Pretty—and Functional, Too!

A white pergola completes the scene, defining the space vertically and actually creating two areas on the deck. While Archadeck of Fort Wayne does design and build custom pergolas, this is a low-maintenance vinyl pergola from Mount Hope.

The-clients-love-this-new-low-maintenance-pergola-too

The pergola will provide shade for the portion of the deck closest to the house, and this area will feel like a “room” under the pergola. The homeowners will enjoy shade whenever they want it, and the rest of the deck will be open to the sky. This deck is large enough to use as two spaces or one. How they furnish the two areas will determine their function and whether they’re perceived as two areas or one.

Does seeing this deck and pergola combination give you some ideas about improving your own outdoor living space? For more about pergolas and decks, see our page about the benefits of having a pergola integrated into your custom deck design.

Repairing Damage from the Old Deck

When we’re replacing a deck, it’s not unusual to uncover damage to the home. Hidden by the first deck, the damage is revealed when the old deck is removed. In this case, we found rot around the door that led to the deck from the home. These situations can be fixed! We repaired the damage with a new I-joist, an application of ice and water shield, and new flashing.

These-clients-are-thrilled-with-their-new-deck-and-pergola

Our Decatur, IN, clients are thrilled with their new deck and pergola combination. They see a long, lazy summer ahead and plan to spend much of it outside on their new deck.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is now taking appointments for virtual design consultations. We’re able to use video conferencing for meetings and electronic signatures for contracts.

Fort Wayne Low-Maintenance Deck Replacement

When your older deck has seen better days, and you’ve postponed replacing it, your new deck will seem like a breath of fresh air! Double that if you select low-maintenance synthetic or composite decking for the new deck. Why? Because you know those good looks are not fleeting. Your low-maintenance deck is going to look as good as new for a long, long time. Even better? It will require very little work on your part to keep it looking great.

Should Your Deck Replacement Be a Low-Maintenance Upgrade?

Timbertech-terrain-deck-builders

Fort Wayne Deck Builder Archadeck of Fort Wayne encourages homeowners to consider a variety of deck replacement options, but we cannot make the decision for you. Will you build your next deck with wood, or will you choose composite or synthetic decking? As your deck design consultant, we’ll provide the information you need to make that decision.

If you prefer a wood deck, we won’t try to steer you toward composite/synthetic options. But some homeowners who want low-maintenance decking assume a composite deck will be out of reach for their budget, and that’s not always the case. Once we know what size deck you’re considering, we can help you compare the potential costs of different materials. One thing to keep in mind is that each composite decking manufacturer offers more than one price point. If one of their product lines is too much of a stretch, it’s very possible you can find a more cost-effective option with their second tier.

Fort Wayne Deck Replacement with TimberTech AZEK

The Fort Wayne homeowner whose new deck is featured here was interested in moving from wood to low-maintenance decking. They selected their new decking from TimberTech AZEK, decking boards made with a PVC core and PVC capping. TimberTech AZEK decking is backed by a 50-year limited fade & stain warranty. Like we said, this deck will look great for a long, long time.

Fort-Wayne-TimberTech-deck-by-Archadeck-of-Fort-Wayne

The client chose two decking colors, one for the deck surface and one for the fascia. We designed the deck with a double picture-frame border using the complementary colors for contrast.

We-also-added-a-traditional-concrete-patio-below

In addition to building the new deck, Archadeck poured a simple concrete patio at the foot of the deck stairs.

Low-Maintenance Doesn’t Mean “No Maintenance”

As your Fort Wayne deck replacement specialist, Archadeck of Fort Wayne has worked with more than a few clients making the switch from wood decks to low-maintenance decking. We remind anyone making this transition in deck care they cannot expect their composite or synthetic deck to require absolutely no maintenance.

The-homeowners-are-loving-their-new-deck

Yes, caring for a low-maintenance deck is a lot less labor-intensive than sanding and painting or staining a wood deck every year. You will need to hose off your composite or synthetic deck periodically to keep it free from leaves and other debris. If you see the deck collecting dirt that won’t rinse off, you’ll need to wash it with soap and water. TimberTech makes a deck cleaning product, and they also recommend all-purpose cleaners if you prefer those.

Archadeck Goes Above and Beyond

It’s not unusual for Archadeck of Fort Wayne to handle an unexpected task that becomes apparent while we’re replacing an older deck. In this project, we encountered an issue with water leaking where the previous deck joined the wall of the home. We were able to repair it. The wall behind the new deck is now leak-proof, and the homeowner is thrilled with their new low-maintenance deck and concrete patio.

Each step in the process takes time. Moving ahead now brings you that much closer to the goal: enjoying your new backyard retreat, one that’s custom built to your specifications.

At some point, we’re going to see a backlog of projects as our calendar fills up. While most reputable contractors have a backlog during the busy seasons, we feel the situation will be more extreme this year. We’re giving you a gentle nudge now because we don’t want your deck, your patio, or your screened porch project to be delayed. Celebrating Our Award-Winning Combination Project Just North of Fort Wayne, IN

At Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we were thrilled to learn we had won Archadeck’s 1st Quarter 2020 Design Excellence Award in the “Combination Project” category! As you view these photos of our winning project, you’ll quickly see why it was awarded top prize in its category.

Our-award-winning-project-located-north-of-Fort-Wayne

This home featuring a custom-designed, multi-faceted outdoor living environment is located just north of Fort Wayne. The homeowners were looking to replace their tired, old wooden deck and pergola with … something more. Yes, they wanted a new deck it had to be a low-maintenance composite deck. No more wood deck maintenance chores for this family! But that’s not all they wanted. They talked with us about their desire for a full-blown outdoor living combination project including a deck, fire pit, screened porch, patio, and outdoor kitchen/bar/entertainment area.

Enjoy this virtual tour from our YouTube channel:

As Fort Wayne’s deck, porch, and patio builder, we were more than willing to create a cohesive outdoor living design that included every structure they requested. We have observed that combining two or more outdoor living structures delivers more than the sum of the parts—every time. The new project extends the length of the home, with the deck and screened porch above, the patio and cooking/entertainment area below. Let’s take a look at this amazing project.

Top Level: Expansive Elevated Deck, Fire Pit and Exquisite Screened Porch

Stunning-low-maintenance-deck-with-integrated-fire-pit

For their decking material, the homeowners chose low-maintenance composite Trex decking with hidden fasteners. They made an absolutely beautiful selection, which is good because there’s a lot of deck in this project! The deck features TimberTech rail posts and a Westbury aluminum rail. At night, the caps on these rail posts will emit a subtle glow from the LED lighting built in. We also added LED lighting on the deck’s stair risers. There are two stairways leading down from the deck, one on each end. The deck lighting will enhance safety and ambiance.

The-fire-pit-makes-the-perfect-gathering-spot-for-conversation

The deck includes several special design elements. Its curvilinear shape isn’t only eye-catching, it allowed us to create a section that’s more spacious without the entire deck being that wide. We “carved out” this section to function as a room designed around the integrated fire pit. This area is on a separate level, setting it apart, and the deck boards run in a different direction here, another visual cue. The parting board through the center of the area creates visual interest and anchors the fire pit. We built the gas-burning fire pit using Belgard Weston wall blocks.

Unique-octagonal-screened-porch

And the octagonal screened porch? This has to be one of the prettiest screened porches we’ve ever designed. Not too large, it’s a sweetly intimate space these homeowners will want to use even when they don’t need protection from pesky insects! We used SCREENEZE for the screening, and we built the unique porch ceiling with galvanized steel. Like every great screened porch, it comes complete with a ceiling fan.

Lower Level: Patio, Outdoor Kitchen, Bar, Entertainment Area

The-lower-level-of-this-design-is-loaded-with-amenities

The outdoor kitchen/bar and entertainment area is adjacent to the family’s pool, so you know the patio space will see plenty of action. To protect this under-deck space from rainwater dripping from above, we used TimberTech’s DrySpace system. Any moisture that runs between the decking boards above is channeled through a hidden under-deck drainage system.

The clients selected beautiful Belgard Dublin Cobble pavers for their patio. For the outdoor kitchen, we used the same Belgard Weston wall blocks that we used for the fire pit above. The outdoor kitchen is a grill/bar combination featuring a gas grill, a refrigerator, and a side burner. We topped off the kitchen area with limestone countertops—perfect for bar seating, as you can see. There’s ample room on the patio for a dining table and chairs, too. With lighting, a TV, speakers, and a ceiling fan, our clients will have everything they need at hand as they enjoy their new patio.

Ornamental & Functional, a Pergola Sets the Scene in Fort Wayne’s Sycamore Hills

Are you intrigued by pergolas? So many homeowners are, and with good reason! They’re functional and ornamental at the same time. When you add a pergola to your outdoor living space, it will make more of a contribution than you might realize. A pergola can define your outdoor space, visually, in a way that nothing else can, and the effect is somewhat subliminal. The brain recognizes a pleasing view when it sees one, though you may never stop and wonder why.

Beautiful-new-pergola-addition-in-Sycamore-Hills-by-Archadeck-of-Fort-Wayne

We Are Your Fort Wayne Pergola Builder

Archadeck of Fort Wayne designed and built this cedar pergola in Fort Wayne’s Sycamore Hills neighborhood. The homeowners wanted to add a pergola over their existing patio purely for aesthetics. Here the pergola draws the patio, the benches, and the French doors together as a unified space. The new structure adds vertical interest and transforms this area from “just a patio” into an outdoor room.

Notice the ornamental cuts at the ends of the large beam across the front and the rafters that run from front to back.

Notice-the-ornamental-end-details-of-this-pergola-addition

Even though the design of this pergola was ornamental, it serves two significant functions as well. This pergola will provide a bit of shade—not a lot, but more than this patio had before we added the pergola. Also, the new structure provides the homeowners with a place to hang a ceiling fan, an added bonus! Now they can enjoy a refreshing breeze on a sultry day.

Explore Archadeck of Fort Wayne’s Pergola Design Options

If you’re interested in adding a pergola to your northeast Indiana home, we’d love to talk with you about the many design options. Pergolas work well as part of a larger outdoor living project such as a deck or patio. We can also add a pergola to your existing outdoor space as we did with the project pictured here. We will custom design your pergola specifically to meet your needs and to blend with your home and other outdoor structures.

We have a wide selection of materials available for building pergolas, from wood, aluminum and vinyl (PVC) to composite decking materials. If you prefer a wood pergola, we can use cedar, pressure-treated pine, or hardwoods like ipe. We can stain or paint a wood pergola to achieve the aesthetics you desire.

If you’re adding a pergola specifically for the shade it can provide, we will adjust your pergola design to provide the degree of shade you’re looking for. Several aspects of a pergola’s design determine how much shade it can offer. The number of rafters and purlins across the top, how far apart they are spaced, and whether they are angled—these are just some of the variables. The orientation of your pergola in relation to the sun’s path is also a factor.

What Kind of Fort Wayne Outdoor Room Do YOU Need?

Are you spending more time at home—and noticing all the pollen and bugs outside? If seasonal irritants are keeping you indoors, it’s likely you need a screened porch or another form of protected outdoor space. Fortunately, Archadeck of Fort Wayne is here for you. Let us help you determine which type of outdoor living structure would best meet your needs so you can fully enjoy the outdoors at home.

This-custom-screened-porch-is-loaded-with-urban-appeal

You may not need a protected outdoor space on perfect spring days when the sun is warm and the mosquitoes haven’t arrived. What about the other days? Mother Nature brings us many more days each year that are either too hot, too cold, or too buggy to enjoy outdoors. Unless …

Archadeck of Fort Wayne cannot tip the scales and deliver more perfect days to your home. We can, however, design and build a protected space at your home for you to enjoy. Considering our range of outdoor living spaces offering you protection from less-than-ideal temperatures and pesky insects, one of these is sure to answer your needs:

  • Screened porch
  • 3 season room
  • 4 season room
  • EZE BREEZE porch
  • Sunroom

Some of these outdoor living spaces go by more than one name, so we’re not going to get hung up on the terminology. All you need to do is tell us what you want in an outdoor room, and we’ll design it and build it for you. We’ll agree with whatever you would like to call it. What’s important is that it increases your enjoyment of the outdoors at your home.

7 ways you know you truly need a protected outdoor space

  • Do mosquitoes always find you? If you are their favorite meal, you simply cannot hide. A northeastern Indiana screened porch —or any of the outdoor rooms listed above—will offer the ultimate protection from those hungry pests.

Northeastern-Indiana-screened-porch-builders

  • Does pollen season make you miserable, without fail? If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you need more than a screened porch. You need a room with windows you can close when pollen is on the loose. Any outdoor room from a 3-season room to a sunroom will keep you safe. The advantage of a 3-season room or EZE BREEZE porch is that when the pollen is over, you can throw open the windows and enjoy the breezes flowing through the screens.

A-custom-Eze-Breeze-outdoor-room-will-help-quell-those-seasonal-allergies-while-outdoors

  • Is the sun your worst enemy? If you’re more sensitive to the sun’s UV rays than some folks are, we’ll never tell you to grin and bear it. You owe your skin the promise of shade, no matter the season. For this, any protected outdoor space will serve you well, from screened porch to sunroom and everything in between. How will you decide? We’ll help you! That’s what our design consultation is for.

Spending-more-time-at-home-?- Consider-a-new-screened-porch-addition-for-your-Fort-Wayne-home

  • Are you a drawn to great views of the outdoors? If you find yourself twisting your neck to get a better view through the nearest window, you need more windows! A sunroom delivers great views plus year-round comfort because it’s heated and cooled like your home’s other interior rooms. Most sunrooms have maximum windows relative to wall space. We can, however, design any of our other outdoor room types with a maximum ratio of windows and screens to solid wall space.

Eze-Breeze-outdoor-room

  • Are you tired of sweeping pollen and leaves from your deck? An EZE BREEZE porch is perfect for homeowners who want the option of opening windows for the breeze or closing them against debris. A screened porch will keep out the leaves and flower petals as they drop and blow about, but it won’t help you defeat pollen. If you want to banish pollen forever and conquer the slightest possibility of debris, you’ll want to add a 4-season room or a sunroom.
  • Do you see visions of a porch swing when you close your eyes? For that, you’re going to need a porch! A screened porch will give you shade, the breeze, and a ceiling from which to hang a porch swing. For some homeowners, that’s a trifecta!
  • Do you truly enjoy the scent of rain? If you’re someone who delights in the heavy air and earthy scent of a rainy day, a sunroom won’t do. You need a protected space, but not that protected. A screened porch, 3-season room or EZE BREEZE porch will shelter you from rain while allowing you to immerse your senses in its scents, sights and sounds.

Thinking of converting a deck or porch into a screened porch or outdoor room?

Sometimes this conversion is possible, and sometimes not. We’ll have to evaluate your current outdoor space before we can give you an answer. If you’re starting with a deck, you need to know that most decks are not built to support the weight of a roof. If your current outdoor living space meets the structural criteria to support a conversion, Archadeck of Fort Wayne is the company you want handling that job.

Build Your Fort Wayne Dream Back Yard in Phases, Starting Now!

Our phased building program could be the way to see your dream backyard project take shape much sooner than you imagined. We can build your project in phases to make it easier on your budget. And you can even get started now. So stop postponing!

Deck-patio-under-deck-dry-space-and-fire-pit-combination

If you’ve been wanting to add a porch, deck, and patio combination to your home but feel this just isn’t the time, let’s examine that scenario. When you add it all up, it could seem overwhelming, but what if you took it one step at a time? Archadeck of Fort Wayne has a phased or staged building program that can get you started on that path sooner than you expected. Let’s look at the details.

To Build in Segments, Design It All at Once

  • The end result of this phased building program is a cohesive outdoor living space combining the outdoor living structures you want.
  • By thinking of the structures as building blocks— porch, deck, patio —we can space construction of the segments over time as your budget allows.
  • Designing the entire multi-part project at once enables us to plan for aspects of one segment that might affect another.

Screened-porch-patio-and-fire-pit-combination-outdoor-living-space

Let’s say you want to add a screened porch and an adjoining deck to your home. That will give you a porch and deck combination you can use in several different ways. On hot days and during mosquito season, you will probably spend more time on the screened porch under a ceiling fan! When the weather is comfortable and you don’t need shade, the deck is the place to be. At night, when you want to sit out under the stars, the deck is most appealing! If you plan a gathering on the deck, and rain showers roll in, you’ve got the screened porch as a back-up.

These-clients-added-a-detached-poolside-outdoor-living-area-in-addition-the-screened-porch-combination-space-off-the-back-of-their-home

You know the benefits of adding a combination of outdoor living structures, whether it’s a porch and deck, a deck and patio, or perhaps all three. Add a fire feature and seating walls to that patio and you have best of all worlds, and it’s all in your back yard.

You’ve probably known homeowners who had a screened porch and added a deck. Or had a deck and later added a patio that started at the base of their deck stairs. We can do that. But from an engineering standpoint, what works best—if we’re starting from scratch—is designing the entire combination at once. That way we can consider any dependencies and lay the groundwork for the next segment. Creating a cohesive, unified design allows us to consider details like traffic flow and structural integrity—and how one structure will affect the next.

Spacious-composite-deck-with-hardscape-retaining-walls-and-outdoor-fireplace

For example, suppose we need to run your gas line under the porch or deck because you’re adding a patio, later, with a gas-burning fire pit. Knowing that, it’s going to be a lot easier to run the gas line under the deck or porch before it’s built. So that’s something that we would factor into the total project design.

We Could Call it a Budget-Based Building Program!

The reason for all of this planning and designing, staged and phased, is to make your combination outdoor living space easier on your budget. It helps to look at the big picture, yes, but at the same time your budget might prefer a one-step-at-a-time approach. Staged building allows you to move forward with at least the first part of your plan.
These-homeowners-began-with-a-screened-porch-and-built-out-into-the-pool-area

Many homeowners don’t realize it’s not an all-or-nothing proposition. They’re thinking they won’t have any outdoor living space until they can afford their entire project. That’s why we love this staged building program, and so will your budget.

Deck-and-pergola-combination

If you’ve been postponing a complex, over-the-top outdoor living project because it seems too expensive, let’s put it all down on paper. Let’s break it down into bite-size sections so you and your family can start enjoying that first structure now. Meanwhile, you’ll already have a plan in place for your porch or patio addition later. You don’t need to delay your family’s outdoor enjoyment any longer.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is northeast Indiana’s premier designer and builder of beautiful, high-quality outdoor living spaces. If you are interested in learning how we can design a multi-structure project and build it in stages, call us today at 260-969-8663 or send us an email.

Net Promoter Score Proves Archadeck of Fort Wayne is Committed to Customer Satisfaction!

At Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we care about making sure our clients have a positive customer experience with us. This month we are thrilled to have received a Net Promoter Score of 94, which is phenomenal! This high score confirms that our clients appreciate the emphasis we place on excellent communication and customer service every day.

Archadeck-of-Fort-Wayne-scores-high-with-their-Net-Promoter-Score

The Net Promoter Score (NPS) is used across many different industries around the United States and around the world. It’s a tool companies use to gauge how they’re doing in terms of customer satisfaction, customer experience, and customer loyalty. Many top Fortune 500 companies rely on the Net Promoter Score to measure the success of their “customer engagement” practices.

You’ve probably participated in a survey asking how likely you were to recommend a company, product or service to a friend or colleague. Your answer and those of everyone who participated are used to calculate the Net Promoter Score of companies with which you do business.

We-are-proud-of-our-NPS-of-94

Here’s why we are so pleased with our score of 94: scores that high are rare! The complete range of possible scores runs from -100 to 100. A score higher than 70 is considered excellent. And yes, many companies do receive a score in the negative numbers.

The survey asks one question! At Archadeck, we ask customers how likely they are to recommend (this company, this experience, this product or this representative) to friends, family or business associates. It’s important to us that our attention to customer satisfaction is recognized and appreciated by our clients.

Our-customers-love-our-designs-and-love-us

This high score is a point of pride for our entire team at Archadeck of Fort Wayne, but it doesn’t mean we can relax or lower our standards. We are driven to provide a superior level of service every day to ensure our clients will call us again for their next project. Every time a new client is referred to us by a previous client, we know we’re doing a lot of things right. Receiving this amazing Net Promoter Score of 94 validates our efforts and our success.

How do we do it? Here are some of our every-day practices that illustrate our emphasis on customer satisfaction:

  • Providing clients with a welcome package so they know what to expect while their Archadeck project is underway
  • Following through on our commitment to providing clear and frequent communication with all clients from the beginning of their project to the end
  • Creating a custom design for each project based on the homeowners’ needs and preferences
  • Ensuring our work reflects exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail
  • Delivering on every promise we make; always doing what we say we’re going to do
  • Making a client-focused effort to get feedback about each project as it is completed
  • Letting our clients know how much we value their feedback

The bottom line? Excellent communication and customer service are embedded in our culture; that’s how we do things. If you want to work with a designer and builder of outdoor living structures where customer satisfaction is a priority, give us a call.

Can You Add a 3-Season Room to a Vintage Farmhouse?

Three-season room builder Archadeck of Fort Wayne is happy to tell you that the answer is YES, we can! Not only that, but we can turn a plain stoop into a fabulous front entry with a wraparound porch. All you have to do is ask!

Our clients in Columbia City, IN, wanted significant improvements to the front and back of their 120+-year-old farmhouse. Archadeck of Fort Wayne completed two major projects here. We added an inviting new front porch entry and a 3-season room at the back of the home.

Here are the before images before Archadeck of Fort Wayne began the project:

front-entry-of-home-before-we-added-the-wraparound-front-porch

Home-before-addition-of-3-season-room

After purchasing this vintage farmhouse, the homeowners have been doing a lot of updating. With these two projects, you can tell they are making the home more beautiful and more comfortable at the same time. Before these projects, the only “outdoor living space” they had was their yard. What a transformation!

Front Porch Designer Archadeck of Fort Wayne

This all-new front porch is a show-stopper! We couldn’t be more pleased with it, and the homeowners feel the same way. We created an effective, open porch design that didn’t require relocating the front door. We just replaced the simple covered stoop with a glorious porch that stretches across the entire front of the home. Because the front door is set back from the front exterior wall of the house, we were able to create a wraparound porch. This wraparound effect lends tons of “farmhouse charm” to the home.

Beautiful-rocking-chair-wraparound-front-porch-addition-by-Archadeck-of-Fort-Wayne

We were able to match siding for the front porch addition with the existing siding on the home. To finish out the project, we used AZEK porch trim and used TimberTech RadianceRail for the new railing that flanks the front steps.

Archadeck is Your 3-Season Room Builder in Columbia City

Another priority for these homeowners was a place to sit outdoors, open to the fresh air but protected from pesky insects and rain showers. It’s true that Eze Breeze 3-season rooms had not been invented back when this house was built. We feel certain that if the original owners of the home could see this extremely-functional outdoor room, they would be envious.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne recommends Eze-Breeze three season rooms for homeowners who want a screened porch with the option of windows they can close. The clear vinyl window panels slide open easily to reveal screens when you want to enjoy a breeze. You can open as many as 75% of the window panels at one time for plenty of fresh air. When the weather is cooler, you can keep the windows closed to keep out the chill. The effect is much like that of a sunroom—and when you look at all of these windows, you can see what we mean! During the summer, the homeowners have the option of removing all of the window panels for maximum airflow.

New-three-season-room-addition-by-Archadeck-of-Fort-Wayne

Eze-Breeze windows are made with sturdy, high-quality aluminum window frames. If you think vinyl windows sound iffy, you haven’t seen Eze-Breeze windows! They are clear and clean with the visibility of glass. Eze-Breeze three-season room construction allows you to use your outdoor room more often throughout the year than you could use a traditional screened porch.

This custom-designed three-season room features T1-11 siding on the interior. The exterior siding matches that of the home. For exterior trim we used the same AZEK trim that we used on the front porch. The clients chose cedar for their interior trim.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is northeast Indiana’s premier designer and builder of beautiful, high-quality outdoor living spaces. If you are interested in learning how we can design the perfect porch or 3-season room for your home, call us today at 260-969-8663 or send us an email.

Low-Maintenance Decking, Just Enough Change for this Decatur, IN, Deck

Any time you start to plan a home renovation, it’s an opportunity to start fresh. That’s true for your outdoor living space as well! When it’s time for your Decatur, IN, deck replacement, you might start thinking about all the ways you could improve upon your old deck.

AZEK-deck-replacement-in-Decatur-IN

But what if you like your original deck—except for the fact that it has reached the end of its useful life? Don’t feel like you have to make a whole lot of changes to your deck’s design, size, or shape if you don’t want to. We never want our clients to feel pressured into making more changes than they really want.

Who Builds Decks in Decatur, IN? We do!

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is your Decatur, Indiana, deck designer, deck builder, and deck replacement specialist. Our goal is to deliver the deck you want, not more and not less. We design and build custom decks, the best way to make sure you get the perfect deck for your home and your family.

Low-maintenance-deck-Decatur-IN

When these Decatur, IN, homeowners decided it was time to replace their aging wood deck, they weren’t looking to add all kinds of bells and whistles. They did want an upgrade, though, to low-maintenance composite decking. They were ready—okay, more than ready—to make the switch to a low-maintenance lifestyle. No more sanding and staining or sealing for this family!

Choose Composite Decking for a Long Life and Lasting Beauty

For their new decking material, they selected AZEK Vintage decking in the Coastline color. It matches their home perfectly! Not only will this capped polymer decking reduce their deck maintenance chores, it will beautify their outdoor space. AZEK Vintage decking comes with a 50-year limited fade and stain warranty, the longest warranty in the industry.

Low-to-grade-AZEK-deck-in-Decatur-IN

The clients liked the size and shape of their original deck, so they elected to keep the same footprint for the new deck. As you can see in these photos, the deck is low to grade, so building codes do not require railings. The homeowners like the look of a railing to define the space, however, and want to add one in the future.

Decks and Screened Porches Just Go Together!

Access to this deck is through the clients’ existing screened porch, which means they have the best of both worlds. Their new low-maintenance deck provides a place to sit outdoors when the weather is good and they want to use their grill. The deck is great for star-gazing at night, too! The screened porch provides protection from pesky insects and rain showers. This is the way to enjoy outdoor living in Decatur, IN.

Stop, in the name of this fabulous octagonal Fort Wayne deck!

Archadeck of Fort Wayne worked with these homeowners in Chapel Creek, to revitalize their outdoor living space with a unique deck design and a custom-tailored building process to boot!

Take-a-look-at-this-fabulous-octagonal-deck-Archadeck-just-finished

These Fort Wayne clients called on us with a real decking problem. Their aging deck was literally falling apart at the seams! They expressed to us that their overall outdoor living aspirations went beyond a simple composite deck replacement. They longed for something more – so, we all go to work designing an ample replacement, which will deliver on decades of safe and beautiful usability, giving them the deck they need now, and laying the groundwork for another in the future.

Call on us to be your Fort Wayne deck builder!

The octagonal deck is the first of two outdoor building phases that we will be doing for these Chapel Creek homeowners. Archadeck of Fort Wayne is not just a deck contractor. We are a custom deck design and build firm. This means not only that each of our projects is specific to the home and needs of our clients, but it also means that we can offer phased building. If your budget is limited, or even if you haven’t finalized your overall design choices, we can build your project in phases to accommodate.

Phase two of this deck building project in Fort Wayne, will include a lower composite deck, complete with a custom fire pit.

About this uniquely beautiful composite deck
This deck was built using TimberTech’s PRO Terrain Collection decking in dusky-hued Sandy Birch. For a buttoned-up aesthetic, we also installed coordinating deck skirting. The decking stair, which now leads to the backyard, will eventually enter onto the second phase, lower-level deck.

For now, though, this family can enjoy a safe and beautiful single deck. In contrast to the lighter decking color, we chose beautiful Westbury deck railings in bronze – the perfect designer complement and also a low-maintenance deck railing choice!

Are you thinking of a new composite deck project for your home?

See this award-winning lakeside deck design on Crooked Lake in Angola, IN

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is pleased to announce our award-winning deck design in Angola. This Trex composite deck is the result of design persistence and cooperation with other trades to give this homeowner the lakefront view he longed for – right by the water!

This client came to us a few years ago to build a Belgard hardscape retaining wall on their sloping lake frontage. Fast forward to 2019, they contacted us once again, with something all-new in mind for their lakeside home. On the docket was a special Trex deck, sitting right over the water, which would allow him to enjoy the beautiful waterfront locale in a way like never before.

How do you build a composite deck in a location, such as this?

Archadeck of Fort Wayne went into this project sensibly, knowing that the steep hillside landscape would present design challenges. Not to complain – we were up for those challenges. As such, due to setback requirements and topography, our custom composite deck design went through a few iterations before they were approved by the planning and building departments.

To create a level and sturdy deck foundation, we had to cut into the hillside, and then install helical piles. We then built the deck atop the helical piles.

For this project, we used Trex Enhance decking in Beach Dune finish. To perfectly complement the low-maintenance requirements of this deck, we added Westbury Tuscany railings. This low-profile railing and black finish will offer protection on the deck, while not impeding the beautiful lake view.

Collaborative design and building efforts made this lakeside deck project a true success!

We worked alongside and in concerted endeavor with a local landscape design and installation company, Franz Nursery, who masterfully planned and installed boulders for aesthetics and to further stabilize the surrounding landscape. We can all agree that they achieved success on both fronts.

What can you expect from an award-winning deck builder?

Well, everything! You see, we know that not all designs will win prestige and notice from others, but we don’t build great decks for recognition alone. We build them to add valuable living experiences for our clients and their guests. We build them for families to make memories – to unwind – to celebrate – to enjoy safely and beautifully.

TOP 5 FORT WAYNE SHADE STRUCTURES TO COOL YOUR SUMMER DOWN!

You wait a long time for spring and summer and then, when the novelty of bright, warm days wears off, do you find yourself complaining about the heat? Not all the time, of course, but as summer marches on, would you give almost anything for a patch of shade?

If you’re already looking for a cooling trend in the weather report, Archadeck of Fort Wayne has some ideas about shade you’ll love. Here are our Top 5 ways you can order up some shade for summertime outdoor living in comfort.

#1) Add a new covered porch – with a ceiling fan, or two, of course!

With a covered porch, you can enjoy the outdoors with the protection of a ceiling and a roof between you and the sun. Today’s sun worshippers know that UV rays can damage skin and create problems many years after exposure. Sitting or lounging on your covered porch, you can enjoy the sun without being bombarded by it. Have your porch wired for a ceiling fan and add lighting so you can enjoy the cooler evening temperatures out on your porch, too. Not to mention a covered porch is a great place for an outdoor kitchen! Porch builder Archadeck of Fort Wayne can custom design a beautiful covered porch that looks original to your home.

#2) Turn your patio into a covered patio – or let us build one from scratch

You do not need to offer yourself up as a blistered human on a sun-drenched patio during the Indiana summers! Nor should you have to stay indoors to avoid the sun. Let Fort Wayne patio designer Archadeck of Fort Wayne create a covered patio you can enjoy whether the forecast calls for sun or rain. We can tie the patio cover into your home’s roof or design one that’s free-standing. The ideal patio cover will shade a portion of your patio for shade in the daytime while leaving a portion open to the stars at night. Are you thinking of adding an elevated deck to your home? Let us design your deck with a dry space underneath to use as your covered patio. Brilliant!

#3) Join the pergola fan club when you add a pergola to your deck or patio

Pergolas are immensely popular because they’re more than shade structures. A low-maintenance pergola adds flair and a vertical element to an otherwise horizontal outdoor structure like a deck or patio. The secret to having the right pergola design is being very clear about how much shade you desire, because many pergolas are primarily decorative and provide little shade. As your pergola builder, Archadeck of Fort Wayne can adjust your pergola design to provide the shade you’re looking for.

#4) Amp up your pergola’s shade quotient by making it a covered pergola

If a traditional pergola won’t provide enough shade for you, we recommend a covered pergola. There are several ways to cover a pergola! Some are barely noticeable (yet effective) while others add a dramatic splash of color to your outdoor living space. Let us match you with the perfect type of pergola cover for your home. From canvas or shade cloth to polycarbonate sheeting that filters the sun’s UV rays – and even some of the heat – your biggest decision will be what color to select.

#5) Add the shade solution homeowners have relied on for generations: a screened porch

Fort Wayne, IN, homeowners know screened porches never go out of style! The screened porch is still extremely versatile, functional, and altogether practical. Custom screened porch contractor Archadeck of Fort Wayne can help you select materials for your porch design that reflect your personal tastes and style. The result will be a custom-designed porch that provides maximum shade while also protecting your family from pesky insects and summer rain showers. Add a ceiling fan – or two! – for a pleasant breeze and there’s nowhere else you’d rather be on a summer afternoon. Rocking chairs or ergonomic outdoor lounge chairs, now that’s up to you!

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is northeast Indiana’s premier designer and builder of beautiful shade structures. If you are interested in learning how we can incorporate shade into your outdoor living space, call us today at 260-969-8663 or send us an email.

Screened porches are all the rage, and with good reason!

At Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we know a thing or two about great outdoor living design. If you ask us, a screened porch is one of the best investments you can make in your home, because they allow for quality outdoor living like no other.

What’s so great about screened porches? Well…everything, actually! Adding a screened porch is a fantastic way to offer your family more livable square footage. A screened porch is super versatile and can be used as an additional TV room, private reading nook, play space, outdoor dining room, or just about any use you can imagine. They are stylish and functional beyond your imagination!

Fort Wayne screened porches offer protection for your family.

Having a screened porch means that your family can keep outdoor plans, even during inclement weather. One of the best things about screened porches is they will allow you to remain outdoors when rain would have otherwise canceled your plans. Fresh air awaits almost any time!

Screened porches are no-fly zones for mosquitoes.

Chuck the bug spray and citronella candles! On a screened porch, your family will remain protected from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry! If you are averse to insects and outdoor pests in general, building a screened porch is the best way for you to enjoy your time outdoors during the spring and summer months, when critters and crawlers are running rampant.

Screened porches offer amenities abound.

Bring your favorite indoor activities out into your screened porch! Under roof and protected by screens, these spaces allow for fabulous finishes. You can have a standard wood or composite porch floor, or introduce an indoor material, such as ceramic tile. Outdoor area rugs and beautiful furnishings will make your screened porch feel as comfortable as your beloved indoor hangouts. Add electrical to your finished ceiling for recessed lighting, a ceiling fan, and even surround sound. An outdoor fireplace will create a custom aesthetic, add warmth when needed, and provide a perfect space to hang a television.

Visit our screened porches photo gallery for more inspiration!

Outdoor living spaces are not mutually exclusive. Screened porches are even better accompanied by a custom deck or patio for complementary open-air outdoor living!

Screened porches are great for the whole family.

Your entire family will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe, protected outdoor living space! Your kids will love having a rainy day outdoor play space. You will relish a private place of respite and a space to host friends in comfort and style. Your pet will appreciate the benefits of lazing in fresh air and sunshine – and you will appreciate the safety of an enclosed space for them to be outdoors, unwatched. With all these benefits and more, there is really no reason not to have a screened porch! What are you waiting for?

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is northeastern Indiana’s premier designer and provider of outdoor living spaces. We would love to design and build a custom screened porch to accommodate all your outdoor living needs. Call us today at 260-969-8663 or send us an email to get started!

A New Low-Maintenance Deck May be More Affordable Than You Realize

Fort Wayne homeowners: If you’ve always heard composite decking is much more expensive than wood, and that alone has put you off, let’s bust through that myth.

So many homeowners have been told composite and synthetic decking is just too expensive, and that is not always true. If the term low maintenance decking has you salivating, we have some good news for you. Your dream of a low-maintenance composite deck may not be out of reach.

Many folks don’t realize there are more than a dozen “wood alternative” decking products on the market now. Not more than a dozen brands, but products. You see, some brands offer several product lines at different price points. TimberTech, for example, has three primary lines of decking boards, and these are further broken down into “collections.” That’s what we want to bring to your attention today. Archadeck of Fort Wayne is on a mission to become your low-maintenance deck builder. Read on!

From Wood Maintenance Nightmare to Low Maintenance Dream

Wood deck maintenance chores can seem daunting. After a few years of cleaning and sanding, staining or sealing, you realize the full impact of your multi-year commitment to do this work. Not only does the deck surface need this level of attention, so do the railings and steps. (Any horizontal wood surface outdoors, uncovered, will take the brunt of weather and UV rays.) As a result, many homeowners have replaced a wood deck with a low-maintenance composite or synthetic deck. Many others dream of owning a low-maintenance deck but are deterred by the thought of higher costs. What if they’re wrong?

A note for those who love the look and feel of a deck built with wood: For you, composite and synthetic decking hold no appeal, regardless of price point. Some don’t mind wood deck maintenance, and yes, some actually enjoy the tasks in a zen sort of way. Many who can afford to hire deck-maintenance companies gladly do so. If you love a wood deck and would consider nothing else, Archadeck of Fort Wayne is here for you, too. We would love to meet with you and talk about several kinds of wood for decking, including pressure-treated pine, cedar, and exotic hardwoods.

For those interesting in learning about affordable composite decking choices, we suggest taking a look at TimberTech EDGE. This is the most affordable of TimberTech’s three lines of decking products. Whether you’re replacing your old wood deck or adding a deck to your home for the first time, TimberTech EDGE may be your low-maintenance solution. You might not need to give up on that low maintenance dream after all!

TimberTech EDGE Gets It Right

TimberTech EDGE is an attractive, durable, and reliable deck material. Because it’s more affordable than most composite decking, we see it as a go-to option for homeowners avoiding wood maintenance and deterred by the high price of synthetic decking. It’s not much more expensive than pressure-treated pine, and with a 25-year warranty it will look great and perform longer. When you factor in the cost of wood maintenance, you’ll probably save money with TimberTech EDGE in the long run. If you’ve been on the fence about composite decking, this may be the information you’ve been waiting for.

Let’s look at the industry terminology for a moment. Synthetic decking is solid PVC and the most expensive decking material. Composite decking has a core of wood fiber and recycled plastic. Four-sided capped composite has a synthetic outer surface covering all four sides. The more affordable option is 3-sided capped composite like TimberTech EDGE. With all but the underside capped with a synthetic material, these boards present a durable, scratch-resistant surface. Three-sided capping prevents moisture from penetrating and damaging the boards, repels stains, and keeps the color from fading. That’s why TimberTech EDGE comes with a 25-year fade-and-stain warranty. Made with a high percentage of recycled materials, these decking boards are considered eco-friendly.

One Caution: Low Maintenance Doesn’t Mean No Maintenance

Capped composite decking comes with cleaning tips. When you follow the manufacturer’s suggestions, you’ll get the maximum number of years out of your composite deck. For example, while you can usually clean a composite deck by hosing it off, periodically you should wash it with an ordinary household cleaner.

When you schedule a free design consultation with Archadeck of Fort Wayne, we will actually work through the design process and give you a quote, not an estimate, before you make a commitment to work with us. Our process is thorough and transparent, and our clients have always appreciated the Archadeck approach.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne is northeastern Indiana’s premier designer and provider of outdoor living spaces. We would love to design and build your new deck, whether wood, synthetic or composite – whether you’re seeking the most affordable option or top of the line materials. Fort Wayne Trex Re-Deck

The wood deck on this Fort Wayne home was past its prime and was requiring a lot of maintenance. The homeowners were facing more painting and staining, as well as repair of deck boards. They contacted us to help them work through the low-maintenance options.

The existing deck structure was in good shape, so we decided that we could use it and the shape and size were also good for this family. After looking at many different products, they chose Trex Select Pebble Gray decking and we accented it with a Winchester Gray picture frame. For the railing, they chose Westbury Tuscany in Black Fine Texture anchored with 4” Westbury aluminum posts. This low-profile railing system is especially good for those people with views and it will afford these homeowners a less obstructed view of the golf course.

Other amenities included an access door for the hose faucet, white PVC lattice, under deck skirting, and 12V LED lighting in the stair risers and post caps, all controlled by a transformer with photo cell.

The result was a stunning deck that will serve its owner well, well into the future. We would love to help you with your s— please visit our website or contact us at [email protected] or 260/348-6992.

Beautiful New Haven Patio, Pergola & Grill Station by Archadeck of Fort Wayne

These homeowners started planning last winter for what they wanted to do to improve their outdoor living space. They had an old tired, low to grade deck that was past it prime and the space needed to be refreshed.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Working together during the off-season afforded us plenty of time to develop multiple designs, each one being a little bigger and more complex. The result was a beautiful, functional out door living area that checked all the boxes for these homeowners.

After the owner did demolition and disposal of the old deck, we formed and poured the stamped concrete patio, that featured a granite pattern. Once the concrete had been sealed and cured, we constructed the Belgard Wellington seat wall and grill station. The grill station featured a chiseled edge limestone top. We supplied a new Lion Stainless Steel grill and matching storage door. The vinyl pergola in the Adobe color was a very close match to the house and because maximum shade over the grill was a priority, we specified angled slats which provide at least 75% shade. The only thing left for the homeowner to do is to provide the perimeter softscape, and they already have the plan for it.

There will be many enjoyable days on this new patio!

Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeastern Indiana is the area’s premier designer and provider of outdoor living spaces. As was the case with this project, we are your one stop shop for projects that require multiple skill sets and materials. We would love to help you with yours-please visit our website or contact us at [email protected] or 260/348-6992.

Two-level pressure treated deck with fire pit in southwest Fort Wayne

The owners of this newer home in southwest Fort Wayne had a small concrete patio for their outdoor living area. They wanted more.

Together we designed an outdoor space that included a two-level deck with inset steps, 12V-LED lights on step risers and a natural gas fire pit.

We saved some money by designing around and over the top of the existing concrete, rather than removing it.

The owners specified pressure treated decking to minimize their investment while accepting some additional maintenance. When pressure treated is specified we always use Ground Contact treated lumber throughout to assure that there will never be a premature deterioration in any area of the deck.

The deck was finished by closing off the underside with underdeck vertical board skirting to prevent debris from collecting underneath.

The owners thought ahead and contacted us in the Fall of the prior year so that we could have designs ready for an early spring build (we were also able to secure materials at prior year pricing). They plan some nice landscaping around the deck and because we were able to complete early, things will be well established when summer comers.

They now have two distinct entertaining areas and will find much enjoyment on both, especially around the Belgard Weston gas firepit that included Bullnose coping………Cheers!

First signs of spring for Fort Wayne Deck & Porch Builder!

If you have been dreaming about improving your outdoor living space, stop by our booth and begin the conversation. For those of you with whom we may have previously spoken, take time to stop and see what’s new for 2018. There are some exiting new deck colors from Azek and TimberTech. We are ready and are looking forward to a great year helping Fort Wayne area homeowners create a new outdoor living space. You can find us at Booth 1401 in the new exhibition hall of the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Think Spring!

Fort Wayne deck with Vinyl Pergola, Aluminum Railing & Azek Composite Decking

The owner of this north side Ft. Wayne property had been planning the upgrade to her outside living area for the past couple of years and she knew what she wanted when she called Archadeck of Northeast Indiana. It was easy for us to validate some of her decisions, modify others and recommend methods and materials, to help her with the deck part of her plan. She wrote towards completion of the project “Under your guidance my home is made brand new, architecturally more dramatic, cohesive and spectacular in appearance, the perfect bridge between indoor and outdoor, and will be more comfortable for me to live in for a long time.”

The back yard overlooks a large pond and nature area, but it also faces directly south, and the sun beat up the wood deck and made it uncomfortable to be outside. The owner also wanted the deck to be larger for more entertainment options and wanted it to wrap around the side of the house to service a large patio door that had never been used.

Before:

After:

She decided on the Azek Vintage Collection Decking in “Cypress” with “Dark Hickory” picture frame border. The pressure treated joists were set at 12” on center and the decking was laid in a diagonal pattern. The aluminum railing was Westbury VertiCable in “Bronze Fine Texture” to make sure the views were unobstructed as much as possible. For the security of the many small children that are part of the family, gates with spring hinges were specified at both openings to the deck. A drink rail from matching Azek decking was incorporated on top of the Westbury rail around the entire perimeter of the deck.

To make the outside living area more usable in the summer time, a DuraLux aluminum reinforced vinyl pergola was incorporated. The pergola featured angled 1×3 slats that should provide about 75% shade and still shed the snow in the winter.

Lots of details were incorporated into the design and build of this project, such as river rock over landscape fabric under the deck for low maintenance, matching vinyl post sleeves for the under-deck support posts, 6” aluminum posts at gate openings with “ball” caps, 12V LED pergola and gate opening lights, and 12V LED strip lighting under the drink rail. Part of the project included a sidewalk from the driveway to the new deck.

This large project turned out very well. The owner wrote us one morning…… “Building this bridge between the inside and the outside in such a grand manner and design has exceeded my expectations already in more ways than I anticipated. My world is expanded greatly to include more of the outdoor amenities, day or night, in a seamless way. Very natural and inviting, even at five in the morning. It was expressly peaceful. I feel like a new person in an enlarged new world that I am eager to fully explore with others in comfort.” We love working with great clients to help them achieve their dream!

New Pavilion for New Patio and Outdoor Kitchen north of Fort Wayne

This pavilion was constructed by Archadeck of Fort Wayne by setting 6×6 ground contact treated posts on concrete frost line footers. The post holes were then filled to the top with concrete.

A new Belgard paver patio, seat wall, fire-pit and outdoor kitchen with bar area were then constructed.

When the patio work was complete, the new pavilion (some might also call it a gazebo) was completed by putting 8” square custom color (match house siding) fiberglass post sleeves over the 6×6 posts. The electrical wiring was hidden inside the post sleeves.

The four sided hip roof frame was constructed and then covered with a bronze color standing seam metal roof. Fascia and soffit were also made from the same material as the roof. Bronze gutters with a gray downspout completed the exterior.

The ceiling was constructed from tongue and groove Carr siding and trimmed with rough sawn cedar. 12V LED sconce lights and a outdoor-rated ceiling fan with light will assure comfort on warm summer evenings.

This pavilion/gazebo provides cover for the grill station and the dining area. The result is an outstanding outdoor living space that will provide years of varied outdoor enjoyment.

Screened Porch Improvements Increase Usability

If you have a screened or open porch area that you aren’t getting as much use of due to issues like sun glare, bugs or wet and windy days we at Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeastern Indiana have a solution for you!

These northern Indiana lake home owners had an issue with wind and rain. The western facing porch was uncomfortable on a windy day and unusable on a rainy day. Driving rain had also rotted interior wood and made it necessary to keep furniture covered. After replacing the rotten trim, they were looking for a solution to prevent future problems.

New ScreenEze fixed screens were installed, but we didn’t stop there. A SUNAIR retractable rolling screen system using a clear vinyl was installed. This system is fully motorized allowing the homeowners to open the windows individually or all at once at the touch of a button, making this outdoor living space useable and enjoyable no matter what Mother Nature throws at them.

Fort Wayne Trex Composite Deck and Paver Patio Combo

These north Fort Wayne homeowners replaced a basic concrete slab patio with a stunning and functional deck and paver patio combination that made the most of the park-like setting in their backyard. With our guidance they chose Trex Select capped composite in a two-tone effect, with hidden fasteners.

The step wraps around the deck giving easy access to the yard.

Custom built benches with backrests provides plenty of extra seating for entertaining a crowd.

A Belgard Cambridge Cobble paver patio completes this backyard oasis and separates the grilling area from the deck.

Wrapped deck support posts with matching capped composite blend seamlessly.

Hidden fasteners and a picture frame border provides a clean, elegant look.

In deck LED lights along with the post cap LED lights on the Timber Tech and Westbury aluminum railing provide just enough illumination for safety and added ambience.

Fort Wayne Patio gets New Swing Arbor

The Fort Wayne homeowners wanted a back yard make over that included new plantings, a new paver patio area and a swing arbor made from Western Red Cedar. They want the plantings to cover this custom pergola/arbor so we made custom side panels so that the vegetation could climb up and over.

Northern Indiana Lake Home gets New Composite Deck & Rail

The owners of this manufactured lake home wanted a deck on the lakeside of their new home that would fit their budget. They wanted it to look like an extension of their home, and wanted it to be large enough for entertaining and grilling. As they came to the lake to enjoy their time off, they also wanted it to be low maintenance.

We developed a plan and recommended that they use TimberTech Terrains coupled with white Tam-Rail composite railing, to stay within their budget. 12" joist centers were used to support the decking, and an access door was provided in the skirting for storage of lake toys. TimberTech Accent LED Deck Lights, controlled by a transformer with photo cell and timer, provide for security when they are not there
and allows them to extend the day, when they are.

The Silver Maple decking and white railing really worked with the house and environment.

We will probably be back next year to add a side entrance deck and stair. We are looking forward to it.

May is Deck Safety Month

The North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) designates May as Deck Safety Month. But, the safety of your deck should always be considered, regardless of the time of year.

NADRA’s web site has several resources available when considering the structural and safety aspects of your deck. Rather than repeat those here, I would just refer you to their site (click above links). Also, I would offer the services of Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana to assist you in interpreting or resolving any issues you may have regarding the safety of your current deck structure. The potential ramifications of an unsafe deck can be significant…in no particular order, injury, death and detrimental impact on your home’s value are the top 3 that come to my mind. These issues are real and they do exist in your neighborhood, believe me. Being in the deck building business in the Northeast Indiana area for nearly 9 years now, I’ve been in your neighborhood…I’ve seen plenty of examples. Pictured here are just a few, real-world, examples of issues I’ve seen in this regard – issues you should be concerned about if you see them on your or your neighbor’s, family’s, and/or friend’s decks.

There is engineering behind deck building…what “load” can the deck (and railing) handle, and how? Not to mention design…how does it look, flow, material, etc. That all too often gets taken for granted because of all the easy access free stuff on the web and the $7.95 deck plan books on the web and on the shelves of your favorite bookstores or home improvement retailers. But, that “engineering” isn’t necessarily rocket science (except when NASA does it) and the span/load ratios are readily available to anyone so inclined to use a hammer and a saw. There are International Building Codes and local building codes and associations like NADRA and companies like Simpson StrongTie and FastenMaster and local building inspectors and others who are vested in ensuring that these structures are and can be built with safety in mind. And then there are builders like Archadeck and others who subscribe and adhere to those principles and consider it good business practice to adhere to – if not exceed – those principles in their own design and construction standards. And then there are those who don’t.

Outdoor Living "Rooms"- Patios, Porches, Sunrooms, Pergolas, Decks in the Fort Wayne Northeastern Indiana Market

Now that the 2017 Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show is in our rearview mirror and with the first day of spring only 10 days away we are gearing up for another busy year of designing and building the best outdoor living spaces for the greater Fort Wayne area.

When greeting visitors at our Home Show booth a preliminary question is usually along the lines of “What kind of project are you thinking about?” Sometimes the answer is very specific “I want a deck” or “I want a porch” and we can take the discussion from there. But, often the answer is “I don’t really know what I want”.

This is where the experience and knowledge of Archadeck of Northeast Indiana really shines. We think of all outdoor living spaces as “rooms” Decks and patios are rooms without roofs, 3-season rooms, 4-season rooms, open porches and gazebos are “rooms” with roofs. Pergolas are an in-between option for a room with some shade coverage. When you start to think of your new outdoor living space as a room that puts the focus on how you intend to utilize that space and suddenly the project comes alive as options and accessories such as an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, fire pit, built in seating, planters, lighting are explored.

We are finding more and more customers combining “rooms”. They want more than a slab of concrete or a run of boards for their outdoor living space. They want a functional and valuable addition to their home and lifestyle.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana is committed to asking the right questions and providing the answers in word, number and picture form that make sense for your space. Take advantage of our wealth of experience and we’ll make it happen for you.

A Seamless Addition

These Clients desired a covered outdoor space but felt strongly that the structure look as if it were original to the house. Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana designed and built a patio cover over their existing concrete slab.

Before, a basic builders concrete slab.

An open, but covered porch was built matching the house siding and roofing material creating a seamless addition. Low maintenance exterior trim was selected with vinyl sleeve posts, gutters and downspouts.

After, a seamless transition.

The interior features exposed rafters and cedar trim.

Phase One Done! Low Maintenance Deck in Fort Wayne

Seeing the bigger picture and planning ahead can save time, money and headaches in the long run. These homeowners contacted Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana to design and build a new low maintenance deck to replace a smaller wood deck. Plans for a future ground level patio were also discussed and taken into consideration. Issues such as traffic flow and access are important to the overall success of a project.

Timber Tech Terrain, a capped composite in Brown Oak was chosen for the decking, replacing a smaller wood deck, featuring hidden fasteners.

Another low maintenance choice was Westbury Tuscany aluminum rail in the very popular bronze fine texture finish.

Phase two of this project which will feature a ground level patio, giving these homeowners the multi function, multi level, mixed material outdoor living space they envisioned.

Enjoyment Enhanced! Elevated Composite Decks in Fort Wayne

This home’s idyllic setting was not living up to it’s potential as a fabulous outdoor living space. The wood decks, both upper and lower required arduous and regular maintenance and the upper deck was little more than a balcony existing to access the stairway to the lower deck.

Before the tiny upper deck served mostly as access to the stairway.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana expanded the upper deck, making it a functional space worthy of the stunning views. Both decks were finished with low maintenance Timber Tech Terrain in Sandy Birch including all trim work. The posts were also wrapped in composite making a clean, complimentary finish.

After photo shows a much improved, stylish and low maintenance space.

Westbury aluminum rail in Clay was chosen to beautifully accent the decks.

Westbury aluminum railing in Clay means no tedious maintenance required.

Whether it’s a sunny spot for that morning cup of coffee or a shady spot for happy hour these homeowners can now relax and enjoy their beautiful homesite for many years to come.

Multiple Entertainment Zones

The owners of this northern Indiana lake property lived with a deteriorating and unsafe deck for a number of years before contacting Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana to replace and reconfigure their old wood deck. One thing led to another and they now have multiple entertaining spaces from which to enjoy everything a lake home has to offer.

Before: An aging and unsafe structure.

The deck was reconfigured, adding stairs to the lower level and to the lake. Azek Brownstone decking and Kona fascia on 12" on center joists make a structurally sound and low maintenance deck. Westbury’s Tuscany aluminum railing in Bronze Fine Texture compliments the deck beautifully. Vinyl sleeves cover the main support posts.

A Trex Rain Escapes drainage system with a vinyl beadboard soffit ceiling, gutters and downspouts will keep the patio area beneath the deck dry during those sudden Indiana summer downpours.

Hello Beautiful, Goodbye Maintenance

The owners of this Northwest Fort Wayne home can say goodbye to the arduous job of maintaining their old wood deck and wood railing. Archadeck of Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana was hired to design and install a beautiful new low maintenance composite deck, railing and skirting using basically the same footprint.

Before picture of the wood deck, wood railing and lattice skirting.

Azek’s Mountain Redwood from their Arbor Collection was chosen for it’s warmth and resemblance to exotic hardwood. With it’s scratch and stain resistant finish it’s low maintenance and exceptional warranty it will serve these homeowners well for many, many years.

After, featuring Azek’s Mountain Redwood decking and vertical board skirting.

Hidden fasteners were used on the decking. Azek’s Premier Collection railing was chosen along with Island post caps providing a sleek, classic profile that compliments many home styles. The beauty and solid feel of this railing rivals that of natural wood with no rotting, splintering or peeling.

From Pre-fab to a Fabulous Open Porch

These Northwest Fort Wayne area homeowners went from a pre-fab free standing pergola to a custom open porch that blends so seamlessly with their home you would think that it was part of the original build.

Before a pre-fab free standing pergola.

After, a beautiful open porch that blends seamless with the house.

Unstable soil necessitated placing helical pilings 17 feet deep to support the new open porch. Archadeck of Fort Wayne designed the porch with a hip roof. Low maintenance vinyl sleeves cover 6 × 6 support posts. The paneled base of the sleeves adds dimension and interest to the porch. Azek pavers laid over a cracked concrete slab freshened the floor.

The interior was finished with a Rev Board ceiling and trimmed out with rough sawn cedar. A ceiling fan with a light keeps air circulating. Gutters and downspouts were also installed.

We do wood!

Not everyone has the budget or desire for a composite material deck. Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana still designs and sells many wood decks and we do it right! This Steuben County lake cottage is a perfect example. The old deck had been contorted by an even older concrete slab underneath that had cracked and heaved over the years. We removed the old deck as well as the concrete slab. New footers were set 36" deep, below the frostline, to prevent any future movement of the new structure.

Ground contact treated lumber was used for the foundation structure and the top decking. A parting board eliminated any butt joining of the deck boards. Full width stairs lead to the lakeshore. A bench and side stair with rail completed the project.

Phase 2 for these homeowners will be a lower level deck extending from the full width stairs giving them loads of space to relax, entertain and enjoy the beauty of the lake.

Freshened and Repurposed

The outdoor living space of this lovely Whitley County home went from tired to fabulous with a re-deck and a repurposed porch.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana redecked using Timber Tech Legacy capped composite with a hidden fastener system and matching composite fascia to go from tired to terrific. Westbury Tuscany aluminum railing in bronze fine texture replaced the dated wood railing making for beautiful low maintenance deck using the same footprint.

The existing screened porch was converted into a 4 Season Room with insulation, new Atrium brand windows, and insulated doors.

After completion, a beautiful transformation. The homeowners can spend so much more time enjoying their low maintenance outdoor living space and relaxing and entertaining year round in their 4 season porch.

A 3 Season Porch Expands Enjoyment

Phase 1 of this project made a big change in the way this Northern Indiana cottage performs for the owners. They wanted an outdoor space that would catch the breeze yet protect from sun and insects and extend their enjoyment from spring well into fall.

Originally the cottage had a patio door to a deck with steps that led to the lake. Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana designed and built a 3 season room on a new deck frame that the owner planned to cover with indoor/outdoor carpeting.

Before the addition of the new 2 Season Porch

The new 3 Season Porch with a new landing and two-way stairs with access to the lake and to the driveway. The stairs were constructed using TimberTech Terrains composite with a Tamrail. The porch walls were created with vinyl covered posts and a 24" high knee wall, the exterior siding matching that of the existing house. The window openings were framed in PVC and EZE-Breeze vertical 4-track windows were installed.

EZE-Breeze windows with a smoke gray glazing allows the owners to customize the amount of light and breeze and also extends the use of the porch when closed for inclement weather. Large trapezoid windows with crown trusses on the gable end create a open feeling. The exposed rafters gives the room the rustic feel the homeowners desired.

An interior barn wood siding clads the house wall complimenting the exposed rafters.

A planned phase 2 project for this cottage will include a paver patio between their new 3-Season room and the lake.

A Pretty, Private and Practical Patio

These Southwest Fort Wayne, Indiana homeowners had the typical small builders cement patio. Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana were called in to design and build a patio that more closely answered their needs for space to entertain, grill, dine and use their hot tub. Backyard privacy was also high on their list of priorities. Keeping their budget firmly in mind Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana proposed a larger stamped concrete patio with an interesting granite pattern to give them space for all of these outdoor activities.

A non-skid material was added to the acrylic cement sealer around the hot tub area to increase traction for safety.

A 6 foot vinyl fence surrounding the patio provides privacy as well as a wind block.

Let the Buyer Beware!

The Best Deck Builder in Northeast Indiana: The old business adage says you can pick 2 out of the 3; Fast, Cheap, & Good. While this is certainly a great notion in business, it does not apply to deck building. While we know it can be tempting to go with your lowest bid or the contractor who can start your job the soonest, we have to caution you to take the time to investigate your contractor. Making a wise investment for the long-term safety, quality, and value of your new outdoor living addition is much more important than the lowest price or the quickest time frame.

Good Deck Builders are Busy Deck Builders

At Archadeck of Northeast Indiana, we are neither the cheapest nor the fastest. It is peak season in the deck building world which means we have a queue for design consultations and project starts. A wait list is something that all good deck builders will have during the spring and summer months. If you have a deck builder telling you he/she is ready to have their crew start tomorrow, I would think “Why is this deck builder not busier?” The answer might give you pause in choosing them as your deck builder.

Custom Quality Decks Can’t Be the Cheapest

Many deck builders try to cut costs by pushing one-size fits all deck, patio and porch designs. At Archadeck of Northeast Indiana, we want every homeowner to get exactly the project that fits their house, style, and needs. The function has to be there, or the whole project is a bust. We look at outdoor living as an investment in your home. We will custom design every aspect of your outdoor living project. We use the best fasteners and hardware and advise our clients to use the best decking materials. Excellent products yield long-lasting decks and porches for the best investment.

Permits, Permits & Permits

The Archadeck process guarantees that all of our designs will meet or exceed local and state building codes. Our decks are built for longevity and safety, and we take this process very seriously. When it comes to building a safe deck, it is key to pull the proper permits and have the proper inspections from our local building enforcement to ensure the job was done correctly. Most deck failures happen where the deck connects to your home; an inspection will guarantee your deck is connected properly. If a permit is not pulled and inspections are not done, you or the next buyer of your home could be forced to tear it down.

If you’re ready to invest in your outdoor living lifestyle, call today. We look forward to working with you. It's the Pits

Few things draw us in more than the flickering warmth of fire. In northeast Indiana where weather is fickle and summer always seems much too short, a fire pit can help to extend the use and enjoyment of your outdoor space. As a gathering spot for ’smores or quiet conversation and fellowship, a fire pit is a great backyard focal point.

Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana has definitely seen an increase in the number of homeowners wanting to incorporate a fire pit to their outdoor living space. Some people want the crackle and smell of burning wood and others prefer the instant on/off reliability of gas. A quality built masonry fire pit sited perfectly for maximum enjoyment is a feature that will provide years of pleasure.

It's about time!

On March 13th Indiana clocks sprung forward one hour and every day brings us closer to the first day of spring on March 20th. The snow is melting, the temperature is rising and we are shedding our winter coats for lighter jackets.

As you step outside into your yard looking for the first signs of springs are you also noticing that tired deck, the cupped boards, the cracks and splinters, the wobbly railing? Are you thinking that it has stopped being a great place to relax and entertain and is now just an eyesore? Are there safety issues with rotted boards or unstable railing? Perhaps you are just tired of the seemingly never ending upkeep and are looking for a low maintenance alternative.

NOW is the time to call Arachadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana for a no obligation deck inspection. We can tell you if the basic structure is still sound and whether or not redecking the surface only is an option. We can work with you on a design if changing the footprint is your plan. We can walk you through the pros and cons of a pressure treated wood deck versus one of the many composite choices available. In short, Arachadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana can design and build the deck of your dreams and NOW is the time to set the wheels in motion.

Re-Decking and Expansion of Northern Indiana Lakeside home revitalizes outdoor living space

These homeowners contacted Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana for help in expanding and redesigning their upper and lower decks in order to get the most livability and function with the least amount of maintenance required.

Before the homeowners had no stairs to connect the upper and lower deck which forced them to go through the house to get to the lower deck and yard.

Both of the decks were expanded and redecked with low maintenance Timber Tech Terrains deck board and fascia. The upper deck was expanded to cover all of the lower deck and Timber Tech’s Dry Space was installed underneath, keeping the lower deck dry and useable on a rainy day. The lower deck was also expanded to accommodate a side stairway from the upper deck. Composite skirting on the lower deck provides a clean, finished appearance.

Timber Tech’s Dry Space extends usability. Westbury Tuscany aluminum railing was chosen along with 5" Timber Tech rail posts .

A flat “drink rail cap” was the customer’s choice for the lakeside railing.

The side walkway was re-decked to match the front upper and lower decks providing a visually seamless entrance.

Phase Two Pool Deck Completes Noble County Lake Home

Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, outdoor living projects need to be done in stages. Four years ago Archadeck of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana designed and built a lovely deck for clients on a fishing lake in Noble County. This year we were welcomed back to design and construct a free standing pool deck for their above ground pool.

Setback issues necessitated working with the local Planning Commission. It is our practice to walk all projects through the permitting process for our homeowners.

The same materials used on the home’s deck were chosen and utilized for the pool deck. Low maintenance Azek in Slate Grey with hidden fasteners makes up the flooring with a classic white Tam-Rail railing. As with the home’s deck we used Permalatt DuraShell PVC lattice to skirt the raised deck and also provided an access door for storage.

A gate provides security and peace of mind.

It was our pleasure to work with these homeowners once again to increase the beauty and functionality of their outdoor living space.
