Does Your Deck Need a Face Lift? See this Fort Wayne “Redeck” in Chestnut Hills!

If you’re considering a deck replacement project at your home, redecking is a great way to accomplish two goals at one time. First, you trade your old, worn deck for a shiny, new one. Second, if you choose low-maintenance decking, you trade annual wood deck maintenance chores for the easy, low-maintenance lifestyle. Our clients in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood, Fort Wayne, IN, have two decks on their home, so they are twice as happy with their redecking results!

Save Money with Redecking by Archadeck of Fort Wayne

With two spacious elevated decks at opposite ends of the house, a total deck replacement might have been expensive for these homeowners. Archadeck of Fort Wayne evaluated both decks to determine if redecking would be an option here. In both cases the answer was “Yes.”

A redecking project entails replacing the deck’s surface, railings and stairs while keeping the support structure that was installed with the original deck. Not all decks are candidates for redecking. Before we can proceed with a redecking plan, we must examine the support structure under the deck. If the substructure is still sound, or if we can reinforce it to bring it up to code, then redecking is an option. Redecking saves the client money because you pay for less materials and fewer hours of labor.

Custom backyard two-deck

In the case of this two-deck home in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood, both decks passed our redecking inspection. One of them, the octagonal deck on the right, required reinforcement. With a few structural amendments, the deck support was prepped for its brand-new surface.

Will Redecking Make a Low-Maintenance Deck More Affordable?

Many clients find that the money they saved by redecking can actually put the cost of a low-maintenance composite or synthetic deck within reach. Low-maintenance decking materials do tend to be more expensive than wood decking, so it’s great when some of that cost is offset by savings.

These homeowners chose TimberTech AZEK decking from the Harvest Collection, in the Kona color, for both decks. TimberTech AZEK is a capped polymer decking material, also known as PVC. These deck boards are made to last—as you can tell by their manufacturer’s 50-year fade and stain warranty. With minimal maintenance, these two decks will look great for a long, long time.

Custom backyard deck with railing

We used the same Kona color, a luscious dark brown, for the deck stairs on both sides. For their deck railing, the homeowners selected the Black TimberTech drink rail, and for the rail cap they chose the Kona decking material. For the crowning touch to these beautiful decks, we installed pyramid cap lights on the rail posts. When you add lighting, it becomes a design element on the deck, completing the ensemble. These LED lights create ambiance on the decks at night and make the area safer, too.
